WONDER FAQ - The “nitty gritty” on what WONDER does and what is required to participate!
WONDER exhibits artwork, creates interactive installations, represents artists and sells artwork and wonder products. We do not sell products from other businesses or host unrelated activities. Please avoid submitting requests to sell a product or host an activity unrelated to art so that we can focus on our artists!
We are currently accepting submissions for WONDER December 2019. Physical artwork is required for presentation and must be received by November 15th, 2019. We only accept submissions from artists 18 and under. December may seem far away but now is the time to submit! Submission will be accepted until October 31st, 2019.
GROUPS: WONDER loves working with community groups, schools and non-profit and companies who wish to participate with a group of artists; however, we cannot accept all groups. If you have a group concept, please send your request to media@kidsbasel.com.
COSTS: It is FREE to submit your artwork. WONDER is not responsible for shipping artwork. Artists may request for WONDER to provide financial support but support is not guaranteed. WONDER does not cover the costs of artist travel or expenses. You may request travel support but it is not guaranteed.
PARENTS: Parents will be required to provide a signature on our Artists Agreement (which will be provided once your artist is accepted) for minors to participate.
Will I get paid if my artwork sells?: WONDER as a non-profit in 2018 was not able to provide proceeds from sales of artwork to artists per 501c3 laws. However, in 2019 we are working to restructure, if possible, so that artists receive a portion of the sales of their work. We cannot ensure that we will be able to provide proceeds to artists, please inquire with us regarding our status. Proceed portions will be based on a typical gallery relationship and are subject to individual artists agreements.
WHAT IS PROCESS THAT HAPPENS FOR AN ARTIST?
Submit work and WONDER will respond by e-mail.
Once we accept an artist, we will have a dialogue regarding additional artwork, your portfolio and details on your professional history. WONDER reserves the right to exhibit and price work in any way we deem appropriate.
Presenting artists will fill out a form with detailed information on accepted artwork and sign an Artist Agreement which will include information on dates of agreement, artwork details, sale proceeds, etc.
WONDER is not responsible to return unsold artwork.
At our first exhibit, WONDER began as a non-profit organization, having filed for our 501c3 status as WONDER Kids Inc,. anticipating pending approval and through 2018 we maintained standard practices as a public non-profit. As a non-profit, all artwork is donated in full and becomes property of WONDER upon receipt.
A fact that we were not aware when we began our mission is that the law prohibits a 501c3 (non-profit) organization from giving artists any financial proceeds from the sale of their artwork. We are hoping to expand our activities in 2019 to include for-profit exhibitions and artist representation. We are working to restructure our activities as a for-profit where we can provide proceeds to artists when artwork is sold. We hope to continue to support educational progress in new ways.
Why is WONDER different and what is Art Basel and Miami Art Week?
WONDER takes place in December of every year during Art Week Miami and at the same time as Art Basel Miami. Art Basel Miami is an art fair that takes place at the Miami Convention Center. Art Week Miami occurs at the same time as Art Basel and is made up of many Art Exhibitions at many locations across Miami. Thousands of artists descend upon Miami to showcase their work across the city. WONDER is part of Art Week, not affiliated with Art Basel.
